Nabakisho Healthcare Programme

A project made possible by the generous support of the Hestia Foundation. A team of 40 highly committed Masai and Samburu Health-Care workers, Health-Care professionals, and support workers in Laikipia North and Isiolo Districts. Focusing on improving access to Primary health-care through both mobile and permanent clinics in some of the most remote areas in Africa. Individual programmes focus on three key areas. Firstly, Hygiene and Sanitation by the building of pit latrines, drilling of bore holes in community settlements, and education on usage of leaky tins and general hygiene techniques in homes and schools.Secondly, access to female reproductive choices, including Family Planning choices and prevention of early female circumcision through a community and schools education programme. Thirdly, improving education on HIV/AIDS awareness and treatment options for positive patients, including a feeding programme to support ARV treatment. In addition the mobile facility is used to implement infant feeding support programmes supported by other agencies, to prevent malnutrition and stunting so as to enable all children to have a healthy start to education.


NHP has an affiliated programme 'Become A Friend' www.becomeafriend.net which focuses on healthcare and conservation education in schools.
